The environment has become the 21st Century’s most pressing concern. With his recent encyclicals and pastoral teachings, Pope Francis has been a leading advocate for protecting the world’s environment, and he has challenged all Catholics, all people of good will, to do their part.

This presentation will focus on what insights we might attain about our caring for the environment from a Christological perspective. Most of the theological foundations for care for the environment come from the creation accounts to be good stewards of the created world.

Fr Tim McFarland is Professor of Theology and Director of Mission & Ministry at Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting, Indiana. He has a Ph.D. in theology and has been in the ministry of higher education for most of his priesthood.

"The entire material universe speaks of God’s love, God's boundless affection for us. Soil, water, mountains – everything is, as it were, a caress of God." — Pope Francis
