Introduction to Ignatian Spirituality

Presented by Nancy Seibolt and Marianne McCormally

This is a recording of “Introduction to Ignatian Spirituality” presented by Kristina Frank at Precious Blood Renewal Center in Liberty, Missouri, on March 5, 2026.

The presentation is part of the monthly series “Teach Us to Pray.” On the first Thursday of the month, practitioners of a variety of prayer styles, mostly from the Catholic tradition but also from other traditions, demonstrate prayer in their particular style. Learn more about the series here.

This presentation reviews the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus or the Jesuits, and discusses two key concepts of Ignatian spirituality, the “suscipe,” a Latin verb meaning “receive, take up accept, support, or undertake,” and the daily Examen. Nancy and Marianne also walk participants through three exercises in imaginative prayer, which is a key practice in Ignatian spirituality.

Here is a handout from the program that you can download: Ignatian Spirituality and Prayer.
