Light and Dark and Spirit: A meditation exercise for the Winter Solstice
The Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, naturally draws us into contemplation about light and dark. We become acutely aware at this time of year that the earth lies fallow. At the Renewal Center, we mark the Winter Solstice with a time of slow, quiet reflection and fellowship.
Dec. 21, Saturday, 5-7 p.m.
Precious Blood Renewal Center
2130 St. Gaspar Way
Liberty, Mo. 64068
This year Jude Huntz and Joshua Paszkiewicz will lead us on a guided meditation using the story of the cave to explore our journeys from darkness to light, from captivity to liberation. We will then walk a path marked by luminarias to the Reconciliation Labyrinth.
We’ll end the evening with fellowship over hot drinks and bowls of steaming chili.
Coming as it does at this hectic time of year, our annual Winter Solstice celebration has become one of the Renewal Center’s most anticipated events. Come for an evening of renewal.
Jude Huntz, longtime active in justice issues in Kansas City, is outreach manager for Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City. Joshua Paszkiewicz, whose Buddhist name is Sunyananda, is a clinical chaplain and pastoral counselor.
