The Gospel According to Matthew, the first book of the New Testament is a challenging book for all of us. Christian communities that use the Common Lectionary will be reading from this Gospel throughout the current liturgical year. So now is a good time to study the book and prepare for the year.

For centuries, the life of Christ as told in Matthew’s Gospel has had a profound effect on the Christian faith. It gives us great insights in how we see Jesus throughout the history of Christianity, and challenges us to learn deeply from our tradition as well as seek Christ in our world today.

In this event, we will explore many themes of The Gospel According to Matthew, and talk about:

    • Why The Gospel According to Matthew is the first of the 4 Gospels in the Bible.
    • What sources the Gospel drew on.
    • Who first heard the Gospel, and what were they dealing with.
    • How the Gospel portrays Jesus and what that means.
    • What the Sermon of Mount says to us today

To help prepare for the course, read as much of The Gospel According to Matthew as you can before we meet. .

The course will be led by Fr. Keith Branson, CPPS, a Missionary of the Precious Blood ordained in 2000. Fr Keith has been a mission preacher, spiritual director, teacher, college administrator, pastor, and chaplain. Currently he serves as the chaplain at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri, as well as presenting parish missions, retreats, video series on Scripture and days of reflection.

This is a rescheduling of an event postponed from January.
